I have a three-year-old son and he gets circles (sometimes rather dark) under his eyes. Do you know of anything that I can do about this that would be appropriate for a young child?
Let him get more sleep. Usually that means they are tired.

Keep him from eating bread for a couple of weeks. Might be a gluten allergy.

I would say make sure he gets enough sleep at night
but i wouldn’t put anything on it
or give him anything

Aveda has this amazing stuff called Tourmaline Charged Under Eye Serum. All of Aveda’s products are plant derived and all natural so it would be fine to use on your son at night before bed.

No problem! It happens to anyone who is deprived of sleep. There could be other reasons, but I beleive that is the main one. Be sure that he is able to get a good-night’s sleep. For a three-year-old, I think he should get about 10-11 hours of sleep. Hope this helps!

Hi, my son is four and he gets them every now and again….with my son it is due to the lack of sleep……….or when really tired………

i suggest nap time… but it could also be some sort of vitamin deficiency. You should take him to the doctor and see what he/she says.

More sleep. Dark circles are an indication of not enough restful sleep.

sounds crazy but it works, hemorrhoid cream, and make sure he gets enough sleep, and give him a children’s multivitamin daily

he might not be getting enough sleep at night due to it being allergy season. i never get any when the allergy season starts, its the not be able to breath thing when im trying to sleep. freaks me out every year for about a month.

Does he have allergies that affect his sleep? My daughter has indoor allergies due to dust mites and it affects her breathing at night. She snores and will have dark circles under her eyes.

My kids get the same way and it is allergies. We were sent to an allergist 1 1/2 yrs ago and he said it is a sign of tiredness, but if your kids are getting enough sleep it can be allergies. I buy generic Claritan at Costco but it was advised by the allergist I would not put your child on it without checking with the Dr. If my kids miss 1 to 2 days you can see it by how purple under their eyes gets. And if they miss a few days they get incredibly tired, he said that happens because your body is fighting the allergy. My youngest was 4 when we put her on it.

There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:
Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water & stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath & let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K & Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

These dark circles are called allergic shiners. He probably has seasonal allergies, or any type of allergies, that flare up and give him the dark circles.
Does he have other symptoms? Itchy eyes or face? stuffy or runny noses? post nasal drip? skin rash or small bumps?
If so, give him some allergy medicine. Zyrtec is wonderful. My son hardly ever has dark circle anymore…he is 4 and takes 2 tsp a day.
